Open your Photoshop, click “File – New”, Now give your file a name something like “My Facebook Cover”.
To start, create a new document, name it whatever you like , in our case we use “My Facebook Cover “(that way you can save the .psd and it’s all ready to make another one later!), and size it at 851 px wide by 315 px high. I keep my resolution set at 72 dpi (it uploads faster, but mostly because Facebook doesn’t need access to any of my images in high resolution).
Now, straight-away change the Width to 851 pixels and Height to 315 pixels (make sure your drop down shows “Pixels” and not Inches, centimeters or something else, then Click OK
Now, click “Layer – New – Layer” (or simple press “Shift+Ctrl+N“) – This creates a New layer on top of the background.
Browse to your favorite picture in your computer or you can browse in windows explorer and drag that picture into a new tab in Photoshop window (or you may also use the “File – Open” method to bring in your favorite picture)
Just Press Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C to copy the entire image, now go to your “My Facebook Cover” tab and Press Ctrl+V – This pastes the image into the 851px x 315px canvas area
Here you can use the move tool to adjust the position of your photo and if your picture is too large to fit within 851px x 315px, you can press Ctrl+T, hold on Shift and re-size the image. Now click “File – Save for web” and click save.
Done, now you can upload your new cover image to your Facebook timeline cover page.
